If you have celiac disease, hopefully this list helps you feel less alone or helps you know what to look for if you're newly diagnosed. And if you don't have celiac disease but know someone who does, maybe this list will help you understand what your loved one is going through.

The Bottom Line: Red Flags of Living with Celiac Disease

One of the challenges and benefits of living with celiac disease is that our health is - much of the time - in our own hands. We can control our disease by controlling our diet, and advocating for our dietary needs plays a HUGE role in that.

So if you ever see or hear one of these red flags and feel uncomfortable, please remember: it is not only your right to double-check that your food is safe or to defend your dietary choices, but it's also a requirement of staying healthy. And you should never feel guilty for doing just that.

What's a "red flag" that I didn't include in this list, or one that you notice for your own chronic illness or dietary restrictions? I'd love to hear in the comments!
